Planned power outage November 29

Results of maintenance test during brief outage lead to more work to be done, but no more planned outages.

Tuesday night’s planned outage (November 29) at 10pm was intended to discover the exact issue in relays at the substation, which have not been re-closing correctly. The power plant crew fired up the power plant at full capacity to carry all Baldwin City customers during the maintenance testing. After about an hour on self-generated power, the contractor and city staff attempted to switch back to our main power feed. Unfortunately, the relays again did not close correctly and another very short outage occurred.

There is now a plan in place to fix the issue permanently that does not include more outages. With a single substation in place to handle power from any source and relay it to customers, any maintenance work on the substation will almost certainly involve some amount of service outage.
