Women’s Bridge Park Bench Project Completed

Return to Newsroom.

The benches are an excellent addition to the Women’s Bridge Park.

Jeremy Pahcoddy turns eighteen soon, and will age out of the Boy Scouts program. He had something he wanted to finish first though – achieving Eagle Scout status. When he saw double park benches with a flat top between them while on a trip in Wisconsin, he knew exactly what project he wanted to do to earn his Eagle Scout badge and where he wanted it to go. The Women’s Bridge Park, commonly known as Yogi Bear Park, on High Street has never had seating near the basketball court and needed more near the play area.

He worked out the logistics of the project and submitted it to his scout master, the regional scout board, and then to the City’s Public Works Director, Rob Culley. Once approval was secured from all parties, it was time to recruit his team and gather supplies. Eagle Scout projects like this are fully funded by the Scout, either from fundraising efforts or personal funds, so Jeremy had a budget to manage as well.

Over one hundred and forty hours later, two sets of double benches with weatherproof composite planks were installed on solid concrete pads at the Park. One was placed next to the basketball court, and one was placed near the newer play area. The benches are an excellent addition to the Women’s Bridge Park, with its dual play areas and ball court, shelter, public restroom house, and the historic marker area near the creek and bridge.

Other Eagle Scout projects the City has facilitated in the past include a flag recycle box located on High Street next to the American Legion door, benches at the swimming pool park, and an information kiosk at the City Lake. These projects are beneficial to citizens and the City is honored to facilitate.
