The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin work on Phase I of the Maple Leaf Trail on April 4, 2023. This section extends from the depot on High Street along the west side of the railroad tracks to the Elm Street crossing. It is funded by a $1.1 million dollar Transportation Alternatives Grant awarded in February 2021, with a 20% required local match from the City of Baldwin City.
Baldwin City also received a Transportation Alternatives Grant for a fill-in sidewalk program that is set to begin during this fiscal year as well. No beginning date has been announced at this time.
Phase II of the Maple Leaf Trail, which extends from the depot along the tracks south to city limits, is also funded by a Transportation Alternatives Grant and work will begin later this year or in the spring of 2024.
