UPDATE: Shooting Incidents in Baldwin City on 12/30/2022

A 20 year old Baldwin City man, Junah Augustus Sisney, was arrested at the intersection of High Street and Lawrence Street at 7:24pm on December 30, 2022. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on 6 felony charges of attempted capital murder, 1 felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, 1 count of criminal use of a weapon, and 3 counts of aggravated assault.

A thorough investigation shows the suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun at an establishment called The Bullpen, located at 811 Eighth Street. He then drove around the block and fired multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle parked in front of the Baldwin City Public Library, located at 700 Eighth Street. The suspect continued around the block and fired additional multiple rounds into the bar at 811 Eighth Street before fleeing.

Timely and accurate information submitted by victims who called the report in, combined with the actions of two Baldwin City Police Officers, culminated in the quick arrest and charging of the suspect. We do not believe these violent actions were directed to any one specific person or location.

Police Chief Mike Pattrick said “We are grateful no one was injured in this incident. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the multiple Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies who provided invaluable assistance with the investigation, and commend our own Officer Vanessa Schmalz and Officer Ace Butrum on their brave and decisive work.”
